Your Dream Lowepro Bag

What does your perfect camera bag look like?

We have lots of discussion on our Lowepro Facebook page about the features that photographers want in their camera bags. I find these discussions interesting because they help us create the tools that you need to get your work done. So, what does your perfect bag look like?

Some things to consider:

  • What does it need to hold? Think about camera, lenses, computers, and school books.
  • What type of bag is it? A backpack, slingbag, shoulder strap, something completely different.
  • Where does it need to fit? Under a seat on an airplane, next to you in a coffee shop?
  • How much gear protection does it need? We have lots of discussion about padding. Lots of padding, minimal padding?
  • Zippers, darn zippers. If you don’t use zippers, then what do you want?
  • All weather covers. Do you need this for all of your bags, or just the ones for certain assignments?

Please keep in mind that the laws of physics do apply to this exercise. You can’t say that I want my bag to hold two pro DSLRs with grips, a 300mm f/2.8 lens, five additional lenses, three flashes, a 17″ computer, and slide easily under the seat on a commuter plane. You know what I’m saying.

You can post a comment here with your perfect bag specs, send me email to dstory[at]lowepro[dotcom], or post on our Lowepro Facebook page. I’ll pull together the comments into an upcoming post.

And thanks for your feedback!

    My dream about a lowepro bag is a trolley for my travel, with space for:

    – 1-2 pro DSLRs with grip plus 4-6 lenses (up to 300mm f/2.8);
    – accessories;
    – up to a 15″ notebook
    – external dimension modified to meet the follow dimension

    56 x 45 x 25 cm

    to meet the limit for the most lowcost airlines company.

    It’s impossible? I hope it doesn’t!!!

    I love my Slingshot 200AW – it’s _almost_ the perfect bag. it fits just the right amount of gear and I find it very comfortable to wear all day fully loaded, and use for travel. The sling style makes it easy to access everything while on the go, yet keeps everything secure while in a crowd.

    This year I added a Classified Sling 180AW to my collection of (too many!) LowePro bags – I wanted a sling bag that would additionally fit my iPad with my DSLR gear – it’s perfect for that.

    but there are a couple things on the Classified Sling 180 that I wish were different:

    1) lack of Slip Lock attach points on the main bag – I _really_ wish there were at least one on the bag, on the side where the tripod mount is. or a 2nd one on the main front face of the bag, too.
    I miss the flexibility of adding Slip Lock attachments if I need some additional space or to add my water bottle holder – that simple addition would make the 180 into an even better bag.

    2) I wish the Classified 180 was slightly less stiff (around the perimeter?)- it’s less comfortable to wear all day with same amount of gear than my Slingshot 200. perhaps the stiffness is necessary for the tripod mount? but I’d trade away the tripod mount and stiffness for better comfort and Slip Lock attachments 🙂 then it would be closer to my dream LowePro bag.

    What would be nice is the Flipside as a slingbag, with the belt. That making it possible to carry a longer lens than the Slingshot is able to, and easy working and secure carrying that the Classified Sling isn’t providing well enough (unfortunately).

    Current bags: Fastpack 350, S&F-bags, Clips 100, Topload zoom 1

    Current bags : Slingshot 200AW & Inverse 200AW

    The AW cover could be detachable through Velcros, some do not need it all the time if ever and it takes up a bit of space.
