Gilles Reboisson, Red Bull photographer and Lowepro storyteller went to Santorini, Greece with his Photo Sport BP 200 AW II on the occasion of the 50th Anniversary of Lowepro.
Located in the Aegean Sea, in the Cyclades islands, is Santorini – also called Thíra – what remains from a colossal volcanic eruption that destroyed the centre of the island. It created a crater with towering cliffs called caldera, now Santorini’s typical landscape. Full of history and mystery, this is the place we chose for the first stop on our European tour.
Using our PhotoSport BP 200 AW II, the team went to the emblematic locations of the island, taking inspiration from the beautiful lights and colours.
The light can be extremely hard, especially with the white houses. A good tip to keep in mind while shooting in full sun it to look at your histogram more than your screen. I recommend you activate the highlight display or zebra stripes. Keep in mind that if whites are not blown you may find some details in the whites more easily than stuff in the blacks. Think about how you may alter the image in post production. You may also want to use a tripod and do some bracketing. You can even bring a reflector or flash to fill the shadows so you may underexpose the image capturing the beautiful backgrounds behind your subject.
In this magical scenery, we had the opportunity to shoot on the caldera-edge clifftops, topped by the instantly recognisable whitewashed houses of Oia, Imerovigli and Fira. Pools, terraces, this is a dream destination for many travelers!

The contrast between black volcanic earth, whitewashed homes and red cliffs surrounding crystal clear waters of popular beaches will make any photographer happy.
