Our Loweprofessionals are hard working professional photographers who travel to and explore many different corners of the world. We thought it would be fun to take a peek at their adventures, show you some of the amazing images they capture and how they achieved them.

Loweprofessional Chris Higgins can often be found in places many of us will never see. Imagine being in complete darkness hundreds or even thousands of feet below the earth we walk on. To Chris this is his playground, this is where his photography comes to life.

In May of 2017, I found myself on an expedition to find the world’s deepest cave. I was tasked with following a team of explorers who were on a mission to lengthen the depth of Cheve, an infamous cave in the mountains of Central Mexico. This shot was taken of the team emerging and finally seeing sunlight, after over a week of being underground. This shot was lit by combining 2 PF100 flashbulbs and the natural light spilling in from the surface. One of the biggest struggles when it comes to working in caves aside from being in total darkness is keeping your camera safe and dry. I store both my camera and speed lights in the Hardside 400. The padded interior and waterproof seals keep my camera safe while I drag it to the ends of the earth.

On an ice climbing trip to Alaska in February of 2017, we set out to explore a different type of cave. After ski touring some of the glaciers located in Valdez, we found ourselves exploring one of the many ice caves Alaska has to offer. Battery life in extremely cold temperatures is an issue I always have to deal with. I always stuff an extra battery (or 2) into my inner jacket pocket, which helps prolong the batteries life by keeping them warm. Another thing to consider when you are planning a photo shoot in extremely cold temps is your hands. It helps to practice working your camera in your heaviest gloves because the last thing your model or friends want to do is stand in sub-zero temps while you fumble with your controls…
